CPR Instruction
The Gladstone Public Safety Department offers American Heart
Association Heartsaver CPR instruction and certification at no cost to
Gladstone
residents. There is a $15 fee per participant for non-residents
and businesses located outside the city limits. Healthcare
Provider instruction and certification can also be provided for a $25
fee per participant. This more advanced CPR training includes
use of the Automatic Defibrillators. To schedule classes, call

Fire and Safety Education
Fire safety education is available to residents in a number of ways.
- Informal tours
and presentations for small or large groups may be scheduled by
calling (816) 423-4081, or if no answer, (816) 454-8310.
- Smoke or
carbon monoxide detector information may also be obtained by calling
(816) 423-4081 and asking for the office of the fire inspector. Free
smoke detectors are available for residents.
- The same
office will provide free instruction and demonstrations in fire
extinguisher use.
- State of
Missouri certified child car seat inspection and installation can be
provided by calling the office of the fire inspector at (816) 423-4081.
- In conjunction
with the North Kansas City School
District, Gladstone elementary schools may participate in a special
safety instruction curriculum under Risk Watch. This innovative
program, the first in Missouri, teaches safety to children in the
eight most frequent causes of childhood injuries and is funded by
the National Fire Protection Association.

The City conducts all
inspections utilizing the International Fire Code as adopted and

firefighter/paramedic or file a complaint regarding the conduct of a
firefighter/paramedic, please contact the Public Safety Department at

Fire Hydrant Testing
The City flows and test
hydrants annually to ensure that adequate fire flows are available. On
occasion, your water may appear muddy or yellow in color following
hydrant testing. Let your water run for several minutes until it
clears. If the problem persists, please contact the Public Works
Department at (816) 436-5442.

Fire Inspections
The City has a regular
fire inspection and plan review program for businesses within the
City. Limited home inspections are also available. For more

Fire Lanes
City ordinance prohibits
standing or parking in a designated fire lane. You may report a
violation by calling the Public Safety Department at (816) 436-3550.
Fire Prevention Programs
The Public Safety
Department has an active fire prevention program recognized as one of
the best in the metropolitan area. Tours and programs are available at
either station or may be brought to your site. Public displays of
apparatus/ambulances may be arranged for special events. Programs are
available for all age groups from pre-kindergarten to adult. For more

Fire Volunteers
The Gladstone Emergency
Management Agency (GEMA) is an operations support group that was
formed in 1990. It is comprised of community volunteers whose mission
is to aid in the preservation of life and property for the citizens of
Gladstone in times of disaster, whether man-made or natural in cause,
and to assist the officers and staff of the various departments of the
