Position Details: The City of Gladstone, Mo is currently seeking an Aquatic Specialist for our Community Center. This position plays an integral role with the oversight of the aquatics programming for the city's community center, which opened in February 2008, and contains a 1,500-seat competitive pool and leisure pool. In addition, this position will oversee the department's outdoor pool. Responsibilities include: Developing and implementing an aquatics program for the new community center including rentals, instruction, fitness, swim meets and special events. Coordinating and administering daily safety checks, pool inspections, and maintenance/repairs. Enforcing pool operating policies and procedures including safety requirements, emergency procedures, and lifeguard training manual. Also, experience with cash operations. Recruiting, training and certifying seasonal pool staff. Maintaining WSI, CPR and First Aid training to be able to instruct other staff and to serve as a first responder. Providing high quality customer service and ensuring all pool staff responds to customer service needs. Supervising and scheduling of (1) full time staff member and up to (60) seasonal staff members. Facilitating existing partnership with the North Kansas City School District High School Swim Program. Maintain and update aquatic staff certification and provide on-going staff in-services. Minimum Requirements: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management, Recreation and Leisure Services or related field and a minimum of three years related experience in aquatics programming and pool facility management.
2 years supervisory experience in an aquatics environment.
One-year experience in a competitive swim environment.
CPO/AFO Certification and additional training related to building/pool mechanical systems.
Lifeguard, WSI, CPR, First Aid, and CPR/First Aid Instructor certifications.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, nights, days and weekends to meet center needs.
Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Publisher, and Word preferred.
