    Gladstone Hosts Citywide Garage Sale

It's time to pull out, dust off and polish up all of that old stuff you have been meaning to get rid of. The City of Gladstone is hosting their annual Citywide Garage Sale on Friday and Saturday, June 10 and 11.The purpose of the Citywide Garage Sale is to encourage recycling and reuse and discourage usable items from ending up in landfills. "We host the citywide garage sale to bring awareness to the fact that there are many ways that people can repurpose and reuse things. This creates the perfect opportunity for Gladstone citizens to get rid of those things they no longer want or need and lets them earn some extra cash while reducing waste that would go into a landfill," explained Mayor Barry McCullough. The citywide garage sale is held in conjunction with the Gladstone Area Chamber of Commerce's Bluesfest, which is being held at Oak Grove Park on Friday and Saturday, June 10and 11. For a complete list of entertainment or more information on the Bluesfest please visit the Chamber's website at www.gladstonechamber.com.

A few tips for a successful garage sale include:
    1. Planning ahead. Start pulling things out of boxes, organizing and pricing them a few weeks in advance of the sale. Think about how you might set things up. 2. Invite a friend to join you. You can split the cost of an ad and take turns at the checkout counter. 3. Be reasonable about pricing. If you can't bear to see your favorite vase sold for less, then keep it! 4. Group small like- items together with one price such as books 4 for $1 or cups 4 for $1.4. Always have an area for testing appliances. 5. Have small bills and change on hand for the first few customers. 6. If possible, hang clothes on a rack or fence so they can be easily viewed from the street. Avoid crumpled piles. 7. When items sell down, rearrange so your sale won’t look picked over to new shoppers. 8. Take any leftovers to a local charity- your trash will not be your treasure!

Residents are allowed to have two garage sales per year however this weekend does not count as one of those garage sales. So clean out your closets, garage, attic or backyard and earn a little extra cash while being environmentally friendly. Your application for a garage sale can be completed on the city website and are automatically included in the website listing of garage sales. Go to www.gladstone.mo.us and click on the garage sale icon at the bottom of the page.
