How many dogs and cats can I have? The maximum number of uncaged pet animals per residence is four. What are the licensing requirements in Gladstone? All dogs owned, kept or harbored within the city limits of Gladstone that are over the age of six months are required to license annually. A certificate of current rabies vaccination by a licensed veterinarian is required to obtain a license. No fee shall be required for a dog (not more than one) owned by legally blind residents and residents aged 65 and older. Licenses are due January 1 st and expire on December 31 st of each year. Cats are not required to license. Can dogs run loose in Gladstone? A dog owner or keeper shall keep such owner’s or keeper’s dog under restraint at all times. Restraint is defined as (1) within a fully enclosed or fenced area (2) on a handheld leash by a responsible person physically capable of controlling such dog; or (3) on a leash or chain confining such dog to the yard of its owner or keeper Does Gladstone have an ordinance addressing barking dogs? Yes. No owner shall permit a dog to habitually bark, howl or in other ways be a public nuisance. Are pit bulls illegal in Gladstone? No. All pit bulls (refer to the full ordinance for definition) are considered dangerous dogs by city ordinance (unless grandfathered in prior to enactment of the ordinance). Ordinance allows no more than one dangerous dog per residence, and all dangerous dogs must be registered as dangerous (refer to full ordinance for details on how to license a dangerous dog).
