About Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS)
The VIPS program was established to give residents an opportunity to serve in unpaid, non-uniformed positions to augment the work of the Police Department. The duties and responsibilities of our volunteer force continually evolve and change, adjusting to the needs of the department. All assignments are open to VIPS throughout the department. Our VIPS perform administrative duties such as:
Data entry, filing, copying of reports
Translators
Computer activities
Inventory control and record keeping
Vacation House Checks
Eligibilty Requirements
To become a member of the VIPS program, you must be:
In good physical health
Able to pass a comprehensive background and employment check
Able to pass an interview with the volunteer coordinator
Selection Process
The selection, appointment and tenure of VIPS personnel will be determined by the Gladstone Police Chief.
Assignment of Personnel
Whenever possible, we will strive to assign VIPS to areas of interest. However, the needs of the department are of primary concern in determining where VIPS are ultimately assigned. VIPS may be assigned to more than one assignment at a time.
