Through a combination of utility rebates and new technology, solar electricity continues to become more affordable. Solar energy is becoming a more and more important part of our energy future.
The City of Gladstone completed installation of a 25kW solar array at the water treatment plant in 2015. These solar panels have generated over 2200 kWh of electricity since placed in service in May. This system is generating approximately 100 kWh per day which exceeds the design projection of 90 kWh per day despite frequent rain showers and overcast skies.
In addition to this installation, the City has also designed a Solar Photovoltaic Systems Checklist to make submitting a Building Permit for solar panels easier for the customer. With both of these items completed in July 2015, the City of Gladstone was recently recognized by the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) as a " Gold-Level, Solar Ready Community." We hope this serves our residents and customers, both current and future, to minimize the costs of solar installation and maximize potential system efficiency.
