Les was appointed by the City Council in August to fill the unexpired term of Councilman Tom Frisby, whose family moved to Utah. Les is a former Councilmember, having served a total of 14 years, including three terms as Mayor (2004, 2007, 2010). Currently Chairman of the Gladstone Economic Betterment Council, his past civic activities also include service on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and Chairman of the Planning Commission as well as membership in the Gladstone Area Chamber of Commerce, having twice served as Chairman of the Board. Possessing a strong commitment to a safe community, Les spearheaded the 2010 public safety sales tax campaign as Mayor and volunteered for the 2019 campaign to ensure ongoing funding for the city’s state-of-the-art Police, Fire, and EMS operations. Born and raised in Gladstone, Les is majority owner of Gladstone Bowl, which his father built in 1958. His business partner and staff also support our community in many ways, including annual fundraisers for St. Jude Children’s Hospital, the Veterans Community Project, and as a Business Partner with the NKC School District.
