Level 1: Introduction to Swimming (ages 18+)
Suggested for: The adult non-swimmer with no aquatic experience.
Purpose: To orient participants to the aquatic environment and teach them elementary water safety skills.
Prerequisite: Participants must not be fearful of being near water.
Description: Participants will learn to gradual water adaptation, submerge entire body, proper air exchange, float and gliding, and proper kick.
Level 2: Fundamentals of Swimming and Stroke Development (ages 18+)
Suggested for: The adult who is comfortable in water but has few water skills.
Purpose: To learn basic aquatic skills and swimming strokes.
Prerequisite: Participants must have passed Level 1 or be comfortable floating on front and back and be able to submerge entire body in depths where they can touch the bottom.
Description: Participants will learn proper swimming strokes including front crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, and sidestroke. They will also learn to enter deep water head first from the side, as well as skills and concepts needed to stay safe around water.
Level 3: Advanced Swimming and Stroke Refinement (ages 18+)
Suggested for: The adult who wants to improve their stroke and deepen their aquatic skills.
Purpose: To improve participants’ proficiency in the six basic swimming strokes learn new aquatic skills.
Prerequisite: Participants much have passed Level 2 or show basic competency in swimming strokes, able to tread in water over their head and float on front and back.
Description: Participants will refine their front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, and optionally learn butterfly. Additionally, other skills will be introduced like proper turns and surface diving, and head first entries.
Level 4: Pre-Masters – Swimming for Fitness (ages 18+)
Suggested for: The adult who desires to swim for fitness or wants to join Master’s swim workouts.
Purpose: To learn how to increase swimming endurance and the dynamics of working out with a team.
Prerequisite: Participants have passed Level 3 or shown competency by swimming a length of freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke.
Description: Participants will learn how swimming workouts can increase their swimming stamina. They will also learn lane etiquette, how to read a structured workout, and the value of a deck coach. Please expect to swim at least 400-600 yards per lesson through sets and drills.
